Thailand has developed an international reputation for its steel-art creations. You have examples of Thai handicrafts online in the form of life-sized Alien, Predator and Star Wars characters, seen detached entirely from scrap and metal.
The industry began over 15 years, began as an independent artist, creating small and Basic models made of wire, screws and nuts. Typical examples are stickmen, motorcycles and simple animal models. Nothing wasTrade and the creation of these statues were just a hobby practiced by a group of about 12 artisans.
The industry changed significantly after the first Predator film, in 1987. At this time the artists who had created the small statues were needed a challenge and a co-decided that the production has created the world's first scrap Predator.
The processing industry in Thailand had been sufficiently developed so that there is an oversupply of cheapScrap from manufacturers such as Ford Thailand, boat manufacturers, scrap storage and Thai military suppliers.
A group of 5 artists collaborated to produce the first draft. It was 1.5 meters high, it took four months to make and requires the help of 20 other employees who volunteered their time.
At the time there was no Internet, computer-design programs, resin model collectibles, or digital photography. There was only a shot used when the completion of the entireDesign - that was a 1-meter-high poster, which was imported from America.
Artist sketch design ideas, or do not create detailed construction plans. Instead of the construction work was a social activity. A wire frame "skeleton" has been created to show a three-dimensional framework. Artists would rummage through the scrap resources they had available and discussed in their group, they believed, especially Predator functions could be created.
Thais are to avoid the reputation of conflicts andthe building process was fun, community, and there was so much to drink, because it was the construction. If a particular artist felt that he could improve on an existing function, it would come to a vote within the group.
The finished statue Predator was never sold. It was passed from one worker for three years until it was donated to a charitable cause.
The Predator legacy lives on. Since the first statue was completed there were 5 master artists throughout Thailandwho developed the art of scrap model.
Our own full-time artist, Khun Phairote has developed his skills for over 10 years. An intelligent and clever man, Phairote tells us how the most difficult aspect of his work in the selection of workers with skill and ability is to work with others.
"We are fortunate that the 12 full-time artist now we employ a great sense of family spirit. They take collective pride in their work and are always happyTo assist colleagues and suggest improvements. "
The most rewarding aspect of this work by Khun Boom - one of the leading artists at the workshop can be seen to develop as statues in the course of time.
"Each piece is unique, even if we worked a great way to discover the basis of creating a function, we try to bring them into our future work as well.'s Workshop on now for over 8 years, it's great to see how our skills, attention to detail and design details progress. If youCompare our work today with the work we have in the past, you will see how far we have come. "
